NEW DELHI: Oil & gas companies Oil India (up 2.95 per cent), Castrol India (up 2.02 per cent), Indraprastha Gas (up 1.77 per cent) and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (up 1.29 per cent) were trading up during Friday's trade.
The BSE Oil & Gas index was trading 0.64 per cent up at 15,330 around 12 pm (IST).
Oil prices softened on Friday as high U.S. crude exports outweighed lower crude inventories in the world's biggest consumer of the fuel, Reuters reported.
Shares of Bharat Petroleum Corporation (up 1.05 per cent), Indian Oil Corporation (up 0.99 per cent), Reliance Industries (up 0.97 per cent), Petronet LNG (up 0.85 per cent) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (up 0.25 per cent) were also among the gainers in the sectoral index.
However, shares of GAIL (India) (down 2.71 per cent) were seen under pressure after reports emerged that the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the company may get delayed as its supplier's storage tanks in the US have been closed due to a leak.
Equity benchmark Nifty50 index was up 83 points at 10,465, while the BSE Sensex was 236 points up at 34,055.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 40 were trading in the green, while 10 were in the red.
