SWANSEA — Town voters will face two races for School Committee and trustee of public libraries in the April 9 election after the filing deadline passed this week.
Both are for two seats of three years each with three candidates running.
For School Committee, incumbent James Carvalho, 181 Warhurst Ave., faces challengers Albertina Bell, 285 Barneyville Road, and Alanna Solitro, 30 Murray Place.
Incumbent A. Keith Carreiro did not seek re-election.
For trustee of public library, incumbent Bonnie Braga, 2 Mount Hope Ave., faces challengers Cheryl Ann Bogle, 47 Mohill Ave. and Judite Carey, 104 Andrew Court.
Incumbent Alice Gunn did not seek re-election.
After the deadline passed the past week for obtaining and filing nomination papers, contests for seven other seats will be without opposition.
All candidates have submitted papers that have been certified, Town Clerk Susan Taveira reported.
Taveira recently announced she would be retiring after 15 years as town clerk, 25 working in that office and 45 years as a town employee.
Filling that void, Diane Pelland, 31 Cliff Ave., is unopposed to be the next elected town clerk.
Most of the other unopposed candidates are incumbents: Board of Selectmen, Christopher Carreiro; Board of Assessors, Wayne Gray; Diman Regional School Committee, Roger Begin; Park Commission, Robert Wilson Jr., 1228 Sharps Lot Road, and Planning Board, Scott Adams, 734 Reed Road.
For Community Preservation Committee, challenger Matthew Beane is unopposed. Incumbent Pamela Kirkpatrick did not run.
The Park Commission and Planning Board terms are for five years, the others for three years.
March 7 at 5 p.m. is the final date to withdraw nomination, March 20 at 8 p.m. is the deadline to register to vote in the town election and April 6 by 5 p.m. the final time to vote by absentee ballot.
