Raitha Sangha activists waving green shawls during the funeral of Puttannaiah
MYSURU: Raitha Sangha activists from across the state on Thursday paid a befitting tribute to their leader K S Puttannaiah by pouring soil brought from all 30 districts of the state on his body.
Puttannaiah was cremated with full state honours at Kythanahalli in Pandavapura taluk. Religious heads offered prayers and former Rangyana director Janaradhan and other artistes sung Kuvempu’s poems during the cremation.
Kythanahalli village turned green as farmers, who were wearing green shirts and caps, waved green shawls in the air and raised slogans praising Puttannaiah.
The body of the 69-year-old was taken out in a procession to Pandavapura in the morning and to his native village Kythanahalli. People downed shutters of their shops in Srirangapatnna and Pandavapura and joined the procession. Despite ill-health, Salumarada Thimmakka arrived and paid her last respects to Puttannaiah who had taken her to many public functions.
