Shekar Reddy’s case: Madras HC dismisses co-accused Premkumar's Plea to return passport 

CHENNAI:  The Madras High Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition filed by Premkumar, a co-accused in the mining baron Shekar Reddy’s case, seeking return of his passport surrendered before the CBI court, to enable him travel abroad. Justice G Jayachandran before whom Premkumar’s appeal against an order of XI Additional CBI Court, Chennai, came up, refused to return his passport and said the person accused of offences like money laundering and other economic offences cannot be allowed to go abroad.

Premkumar is a co-accused along with Shekar Reddy in the seizure of 30 kg gold and demonetised notes with a face value of `three crore, Rs 33 crore of new Rs 2000 currency by the Income Tax department. The entire wealth was alleged to be in possession of Shekar Reddy, K. Rathinam , S Ramachandran, Srinivasulu and the petitioner. Premkumar sought return of passport which was surrendered before the CBI court when he was granted bail on May 12 last year. He filed a petition before the trial court seeking return of his passport as he has to travel abroad to get a medical seat for his daughter who is studying in Standard XII.
