Members of the St Gabriel HSS team who won the inter-school football crown.

CHENNAI: Santhome HSS hoopsters emerged winners during the Dr KCG Memorial Tamil Nadu inter-school tournament, held at KCG College. PSBB, Girgambakkam, Chennai finished runners-up. Saravanapriyan of Santhome HSS was adjudged as the best player of the tournament.

Results: Football (winners): St Gabriel HSS, Broadway; Runners-up: Sri RamaKrishna Mission HSS, Chengelpet. Volleyball (winners): GHSS, Periyapalayam; Runners-up: Pachayappa’s HSS, Kanchipuram. Basketball (winners): Santhome HSS, Chennai; Runners-up: PSBB, Girgambakkam, Chennai.

Purusothaman cracks ton

N Purusothaman’s blistering 129 guided National Recreation Club to a 99-run victory over Comrades Cricket Club in the TNCA fifth Division league match. Meanwhile, Venkat CC rode on D Shiva Kumar’s 83 to beat TV Sivaprakasam Memorial Sports Club by 48 runs.

Brief scores: IV Division ‘D’: Bharathi Sports Club 223/8 in 50 ovs (S Shyam Sundar 58, G Anand 4/57) bt Triplicane Cricket Club 175 in 42.3 ovs (R Venkataramanan 4/61, N Ashok 3/30); Madras United Club 184 in 48.5 ovs (S Karthick 4/68) lost to Madras Aryan Club 185/4 in 43.3 ovs (S Vignesh 63 n.o, Namay Kedia 58).

V Division ‘E’: National Recreation Club 296/9 in 50 ovs (N Purusothaman 129, P Hari Hara Sudhan 47, S Arun Raj 3/82, KS Harris Roshan Abraham 3/31) bt Comrades Cricket Club 198 in 28.4 ovs (P Modilal 78, S Agilan 5/67); Venkat Cricket Club 280/8 in 50 ovs (D Shiva Shankar 83, B Sreeram 62) bt TV Sivaprakasam Memorial Sports Club 232/8 in 50 ovs (A Sintha 69, K Prabhu 3/39); Egmore Club 191 in 47.5 ovs (S Murali Kannan 70, G Sathish Kumar 4/37) lost to Park Town Recreation Club 192/4 in 43.3 ovs (B Vinay Kumar 64).

Volleyball teams honoured

Tamil Nadu sub-junior volleyball girls team won silver medal at the 40th sub-junior national championships while boys team stood fourth. Both the teams were felicitated by the state association.
