KOCHI: Fourteen cases were registered against paint companies and dealers in four districts on Thursday for selling goods without mentioning MRP and overcharging.

The Legal Metrology Department (LMD) registered the cases after inspecting paint shops in Ernakulam, Palakkad, Thrissur and Idukki. The checking was held following a tip-off paints were being sold without mentioning MRP on the packages.

LMD Deputy Controller (Central Zone) R Ram Mohan said seven cases were registered in Thrissur, three cases each were registered in Ernakulam and Palakkad while one case was registered in Idukki.

“Of the 14 cases, 12 cases relate to selling paint tins without mentioning MRP, while one case each is registered for charging more than the MRP and for selling paint tins having description in small fonts. For overcharging, the dealer will be booked,” he said.
