Youth arrested at mom’s funeral for posting pics of girl on social media

JAGATSINGHPUR: A 27-year-old youth, accused of circulating pictures of a girl on social media, was arrested from a cremation ground by Raghunathpali police while he was conducting the final rites of his mother.The accused, Sagar Lenka, a native of Endarpal village, was in love with a Plus-Two student of Barti area within Raghunathpur police limits. However, he came to know that the girl had left him for another youth. In a fit of rage, he posted several of her pictures on social media leading to a controversy in the area.

This left Lenka’s mother in a state of shock and she fell ill before passing away. When the accused was cremating her, police rounded him up from the crematorium.Police said Lenka allegedly had an affair with the girl but when the latter went to her paternal uncle’s place in Bhubaneswar for preparation of competitive examinations, she became close to a youth from Sambalpur district.

Later, she sent a message to Lenka and requested him to forget her since she had found a new love. After receiving the news, Lenka posted pictures of him posing with the girl on social media which went viral.
As the issue snowballed into a conflict between two families, Lenka’s mother Jayanti fell sick and was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack on Monday last.

Police said Lenka returned home to attend to his mother but she died in the hospital. While Jayanti was being cremated, police arrested him basing on an FIR filed by the girl’s father.

In a separate incident, one Nityananda Mohanty was arrested for allegedly circulating objectionable picture of girls on social media.Police said he was trying to extort money from a girl with whom he allegedly had an affair. Mohanty, who hails from Tihudi within Balikuda police limits, had posted nude pictures of the girl when she failed to meet his ransom demand of `1.50 lakh.
