R. Krishna, a resident of St. Mary’s Road, Mandaveli, has to be at his workplace at 11 a.m. every day. His workplace is located on Anna Salai. Though he leaves home on time, he is always a few minutes late. From Royapettah High Road, it takes him more than 15 minutes to enter Peters Road and then West Cott Road.
The problem lies at the intersection of Avvai Shanmugam Salai and Royapettah High Road.
On both sides of Royapettah High Road, near the intersection, vehicles are parked haphazardly, hindering free movement of vehicular traffic up to Peters Road.
Vehicles can be seen parked on pavements too.
Motorists taking Royapettah High Road have requested the Chennai Traffic Police (CTP) to remove vehicles parked on both sides of the stretch. The stretch is a no -parking zone.
As a result of the unauthorised parking, pedestrians are forced to walk in the carriageway.
Even after 9.30 p.m., one can witness congestion on this section. It is a busy stretch used by innumerable motorists from Mylapore, Mandavelli, R. A. Puram, Adyar, Besant Nagar and Thiruvanmiyur, but much of the problem there is avoidable.
A Chennai Traffic Police (CTP) official says, “We have warned the motorists, towed away their vehicles and have levied spot fines at periodic intervals; yet, the problem persists. We will look into the issue and do the needful at the earliest.”
