The police have registered a case against AIADMK cadre for trying to unveil statues of former Chief Ministers M.G. Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa in various parts of the district without obtaining permission. The police prevented the cadre from unveiling the statues in three locations.
According to the police officials, the AIADMK cadre had planned to unveil about 300 statues of the former CMs ahead of the birth anniversary of Jayalalithaa. A number of party cadre staged protest saying that the police were trying to remove the statues. “Officials of the revenue and police departments prevented the cadre from unveiling the statues as they had not obtained permission. They tried to unveil the statues at Kilpennathur, Veraiyur and Thachampattu and were prevented by the police,” an official said.
Two statues of MGR and Jayalalithaa were already unveiled during the visit of Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to Tiruvannamalai Town, he said, adding, “They were kept fully covered. The AIADMK workers removed the covers on Friday.”
He added that the cadre had not obtained permission from the Highways and Revenue departments. “We have registered a case against the AIADMK party cadre for not obtaining permission and disturbing public peace,” he said.
