Someone Put a Tesla Electric Powertrain in an Old Honda Accord

This might quite possibly be one of the wildest, coolest projects we have ever seen.

There was a time when the tuning community took advantage of Honda vehicles by creating “hybrids,” which meant using larger, more powerful engines in cars that didn’t come from the factory with them. That included transplanting the Integra GS-R 1.8-liter DOHC VTEC motor into Honda Civics, or even using the 2.2-liter DOHC VTEC from a Prelude in a Honda Accord. Nowadays however, the term hybrid is used to describe gasoline-electric vehicles. And like the word has evolved over the years, so has the idea of swapping powertrains from one vehicle to another.

Case in point, this 1981 Honda Accord that’s powered by a Tesla electric motor and a Chevrolet Bolt battery pack. YouTuber Jimmy Built showed off the project in a short video, saying the “Teslonda” is capable of hitting hitting 60 mph from a standstill in just 2.7 seconds. And he believes those aren’t even ideal conditions, adding that a 2.5-second time is feasible for the Frankenstein project.

So what’s cooler now? This Tesla-powered first-generation Honda Accord or Ryan Tuerck’s Ferrari-powered Toyota 86?
