FALL RIVER — The city's school department is alerting families to expect "enhanced security measures across schools" when students return from February vacation on Monday.
In a letter sent to families Thursday, Superintendent Matthew Malone wrote that while law enforcement and school officials believe the two threats made over social media on Feb. 15 and 16 are not credible, the district will maintain the security measures "out of an abundance of caution."
He said the district is working with the city's police department and federal law enforcement to investigate the threats and determine the source of the anonymous posts.
The announcement comes a day after Malone hosted a open forum with parents at B.M.C. Durfee High School to discuss school safety.
"If you or your child become aware of any additional threats in person or online, please bring them to school administration or the police department immediately," the letter states.
