KOCHI: Three leading Uber drivers’ trade unions - Self Employees Drivers Union, Online Taxi Drivers Union and Kerala Online Drivers Union  - on Wednesday expressed solidarity with the nationwide strike called by the Uber drivers on Thursday and Friday. At 4 pm on Thursday, the Uber drivers in Kochi are holding a protest meeting at Kathrikadavu, and later a strike call and meet at 6 pm in the presence of socio-cultural leaders.

Uber drivers are holding protests coinciding with the Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi’s visit to India. A statement by Joint Protest Council convenor Jackson Varghese said the Council has no association with some sections of the drivers who have called for a strike on Friday. It said the trade unions are protesting against the dismissal of drivers without prior notice and the company’s decision to take 25 per cent of the fare, among other things.
