NALGONDA: One person attempted suicide at the collectorate in Nalgonda on Wednesday alleging harassment of officials. According to police, the victim M Yadaiah, is the Upa Sarpanch of Gopalapuram village. As some persons were drawing water illegally through motors from Nagarjunasagar link canal, Yadaiah warned them to remove the motors on Tuesday.

Later, National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme field officers Saidhulu and Nagaraju came to Yadaiah house and argued about the removing of motors. The victim alleged that field officers harassed him regarding the issue.  On Wednesday, Yadaiah went to the collectorate with a pesticide bottle and consumed it. The staff who saw the incident shifted him to hospital. His health condition is stated to be stable. A case has been registered.

Meanwhile, Deputy CLP leader, Nalgonda MLA Komatireddy Venkat Reddy visited the hospital and called on the victim’s family. While speaking to media, he said that ruling party leaders are planning to kill the Congress leaders. Recently Congress leader B Srinivas was killed and now they have harassed the Congress party leader and Upa Sarpanch Yadaiah. He added that Yadaiah had already lodged a complaint about the illegal drawing of water. But the official concerned did not take any action. In this view he warned them to remove the motors when some of TRS supported officials’ harassed him. Afraid of their harassment, Yadaiah resorted to the step.  He warned that if anything happens to Yadaiah, Congress party will stage protest
