Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Wednesday sought farmers’ welfare measures including improvement in the minimum support price (MSP) of their produce.
The demand was put forth by the SAD delegation, consisting of its secretary general and Rajya Sabha MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and senior vice-president and Lok Sabha MP Prem Singh Chandumajra, during its meeting with the Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh.
The delegation suggested 11 proposals, including computing of cost inputs for fixation of remunerative MSP on the basis on cost inputs.
The formula is considered to be comparatively competitive as it takes into several factors, including lease or rental cost on land to compute inputs on cost incurred on agriculture produce.
The demand for C2 formula must be seen in the context of Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s assurance in his speech while presenting the Union Budget 2018-19 to increase procurement price on goods at a rate which would provide 50 percent profit on costs inputs.
