An all-party delegation from Tamil Nadu will soon meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to insist on forming the Cauvery Management Board within six weeks, as stipulated by the Supreme Court.
This was decided at a meeting of leaders of various political parties convened by the Tamil Nadu government to discuss the implications of the recent Supreme Court ruling on sharing of the Cauvery waters.
In a rare show of solidarity, leaders of both Tamil Nadu’s ruling party AIADMK and its arch rival DMK sat across the table to discuss measures to be taken after Supreme Court reduced share of Cauvery water to the State.
The meeting at the Secretariat was attended by top leaders, including DMK working president MK Stalin, from major political parties, and representatives of farmers’ associations.
A State government release said it was disappointing that the Supreme Court reduced Tamil Nadu’s share of Cauvery water to 177.25 TMC from 192 TMC. The State government will decide on the action to be taken after taking into consideration the views expressed by leaders at today’s meeting.
