PANAJI: Leader of the House Ramakrishna Dhavalikar on Thursday informed the members of the state legislative assembly that the government will constitute an ‘all-party committee’ to take up the mining matter before the concerned agency of the state and the central government.
“The government has decided to constitute a government all-party committee under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to decide the strategies of resuming, continuing mining activity in the state and follow up the matter with various agencies of the state, central government and if required the same committee will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” said Dhavalikar on the floor of the House.
The Supreme Court has recently quashed 88 mining lease permits in Goa which has led to fear and anxiety in the minds of mining dependents including mining truck owners and drivers that they will lose their daily livelihood.
Terming mining as the backbone of the state, legislators from the ruling and opposition sides on Wednesday had suggested that the government should take a delegation of all the MLAs to the Centre for demanding a permanent solution to mining crisis in Goa.
