ONGC claims billiards team title

Pune: ONGC claimed the  billiards team event trophy outplaying hosts BPCL at the 14th PSPB Inter-Unit Billiards and Snooker Tournament being played at PYC Hindu Gymkhana on Wednesday.

In the billiards team event final round, ONGC outplayed BPCL 3-0. Rupesh Shah defeated junior national champ S Shrikrishna 200 (77)-100 while senior cueist Alok Kumar scored a break of 83 in his 200(83)-111 win over Manan Chandra. Pankaj Advani scored 11 points to bring the match points difference to 200, which was 189  after the first two games.

Indian Oil claimed the third spot edging out GAIL 2-1. In the opening match, fancied Brijesh Damani lost to Ishpreet Chadda 37-200 while Dhvaj Haria outplayed Ashutosh Padhy 200-29 to level scores. Aditya Mehta took Indian Oil to a win with a  200-34 win over Ashok Yadav.

In the team event of the snooker event, GAIL thrashed NRL 2-0 with Ashutosh Padhi and Ishpreet Chadda winning comfortably. India player Aditya Mehta made two good breaks of 51 and 67 in his win against J Phookan while Laxman Rawat recorded an easy win to help Indian Oil oust Oil 2-0.
