Audi is Making it Easier to Pay Tolls on Roadways in North America

Audi has announced the first vehicle-integrated toll technology in the U.S.

Launching on select vehicles this year, the integrated toll module (ITM) expands Audi’s offering of available vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) connectivity solutions. The German automaker said the system will be compatible with toll roads in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico and features a toll transponder built into the vehicle’s rearview mirror. This helps reduce windshield clutter and the need to manage multiple toll accounts.

According to Audi, drivers will be able to adjust settings for the module through the vehicle’s MMI, including turning off the ITM and changing the occupant settings for HOV/HOT lanes. The system is said to be compatible with existing tolling agencies nationwide and can be registered with a driver’s current account, new account, or a nationwide tolling account.

The technology was developed by Gentex Corporation for Audi. Gentex also supplies auto-dimming mirrors for all Audi vehicles.
