Since 2012, govt spent Rs 4cr on 30 SUVs for mantris

Panaji: From March 2012 till date, the state government has purchased 30 new vehicles, together worth over Rs 4 crore. All the vehicles are SUVs and most of them have been purchased for the use of the ministers in the last two governments.

The most expensive four-wheeler was bought for Francis D’Souza, who was then deputy chief minister. The vehicle was purchased at a cost of over Rs 22 lakh in 2014, according to the reply tabled in House. D’Souza continues to use the vehicle as urban development minister.


The second-most expensive four-wheeler has been bought in 2017 for panchayat minister Mauvin Godinho at a cost of nearly Rs 19 lakh.


The state protocol department purchased three SUVs at a cost of over Rs 18 lakh each. All three vehicles were bought during the last two months. The vehicle is currently in use by tourism minister Manohar ‘Babu’ Azgaonkar of the MGP, who are partners in the Manohar Parrikar-led BJP government.


CM Manohar Parrikar bought a new SUV at a cost of Rs 17.50 lakh, which he continued to use when he came to Goa as state guest while holding the Union defence portfolio. And Parrikar uses the vehicle in his current term as CM as well. Ministers such as Vinod Palyekar, Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar, Vishwajit Rane, Pandurang Madkaikar, Govind Gaude, Jayesh Salgaonkar and opposition leader Chandrakant ‘Babu’ Kavlekar all use cars worth Rs 15 lakh.
