The airplane had pulled off a 180-degree turn and divert it to Portugal when its onboard loo suddenly packed in and left passengers red-faced as they were asked to ‘hold it’.
This aircraft had landed at Faro airport around 1 p.m. for about four hours after it had taken off where it was grounded for another half an hour. The flight that had also departed Gatwick half an hour late at 9.30 a.m., finally took to the skies once more around 1.30 p.m. as it took passengers on to Tenerife.
But despite apologizing to customers the airline was struck with angry comments by passengers including one of them who resorted to abusive comments, overcome by frustration at the situation.
Some of the passengers were quite angry and instantly took to social media to express their disappointment at the incident.
British Airways described the incident on the BA2730 flight as causing ‘very little disruption’ to customers. This was despite the flight had flown away past mainland Spain and close to Tenerife when it had to turn back around 12.10 p.m.
British Airways also did not state what had taken place during the brief stopover or if the issue was due to the toilet checks not conducted prior to take-off of if a separate issue was discovered while the plane was airborne.
The incident comes 24 hours after a British Airways flight was compelled to go for an emergency landing at Heathrow after a passenger suddenly fell ill.
