A 52-year-old woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances with a shawl wrapped around her neck at Chattamma in Panangad.
According to the police, Jessi, wife of Varghese of Nedumparambil House, was found dead in the backyard of her house at 8.30 p.m. on Wednesday. Preliminary investigations suggested that she had committed suicide.
Varghese, his mother, and younger daughter were offering evening prayers when Jessi was found missing. “She was missing since the time the family members started their prayers around 7.30 p.m., but they thought that she was in the kitchen. During a follow-up search, she was found lying dead on the ground,” the police said.
Officials said that Jessi was mentally disturbed and had a sour relationship with her family members. A case was registered under Section 174 of the CrPC (suicide).
Investigations pointed out that Jessi had committed suicide by hanging from a tree in the backyard of her house. She might have landed on the ground after the noose gave way, they added.
The police are now awaiting the results of a forensic examination to commence further probe.
