Remedial courses for students soon

In a bid to raise the bar of quality education being imparted to the Government school children, the Department of School Education and Literacy will soon introduce remedial courses along with the regular subjects to improve the learning outcomes of the students.

Popularising mother tongue-based multi-lingual education beginning from preliminary stage as well as teachers training programmes will also be initiated in the new academic session.

“Our focus is on bringing the Government school students in a position where higher class students can easily solve junior classes’ task. Simultaneously, along with their course curriculum, students of every class from this new academic session will be introduced to different remedial courses which will focus on conceptual knowledge based learning activities to aid them to sustain the previous class teachings,” said Principal Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, AP Singh.

Meanwhile, taking a giant leap in eradicating teachers’ dearth at governmental cradles with a good academic record, the department has constituted a separate committee to deal with the issue of teachers’ crunch both at elementary and middle level. Notably, so far, only 3 Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) competitions have been conducted to recruit eligible teachers for different posts. At present, there are over 38,000 government schools functioning across the State.

“The teachers’ recruitment in the recent past has created much commotion. To avoid further tumult, we have formed a committee which is working on different facets to draft a noteworthy proposal. Once the matters are figured out here, TET will be conducted annually. Also, besides the TET examination, recruitment of teachers will be done as and on when required. The skills of the teachers at present serving at different posts will be enhanced through workshops, seminars and other medium.”

Fulfilling the existing gap between teachers and students that has severe impacts on the learning outcome and overall board examination results, the department has signed a MoU with as many as 12 such organizations that will train, educate and expertise the teachers on different domains as per the requirement while considering the level of different competitive examinations.

Taking into account the State board examination results that portrayed piteous condition of government school students in all three streams in 2017, conducting board examination in class 8 is another measure to improve the graph of students’ performance.

In addition, under ‘Gyanodaya’ programme which is considered to be the gateway of e-learnings, wide promotion of Information Communication Technology (ICT) will be enforced with priority among the children, besides the support to teachers to address all glitches while developing innovative methodologies for imparting skill based education among the students.
