More employees’ unions join protest

Wearing helmets and black bands to peacefully protest against what they claim is “routine ill treatment” meted out to them by the political executive are some the options being considered by the Capital’s bureaucrats, several officers told The Hindu.

“We are yet to finalise our course of action but are clear about the fact that our protest, though peaceful, must be executed in a visible and tangible manner so that our attempt to uphold our dignity is seen not only by the elected government but also the people whom we will not allow to be inconvenienced in the least but must share our plight with,” said a government official.

The officials are considering wearing helmets to work as a mark of protest following Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash’s medical report which has confirmed injuries on his face. The officials have also decided not to take cognisance of the directions of consultants hired on co-terminus basis and to share publicly any irregular direction given to them, said a senior bureaucrat.
