COIMBATORE: A fire broke out in a waste cotton godown on the Kalapatti Road here on Thursday. The fire broke out in the godown of Chandra Textiles around 3.30pm, police said.

On being informed, fire and rescue services personnel rushed to the spot with three fire tenders. They were still trying to put out the fire when this report was filed (at 7.30pm).


Peelamedu fire station officer Senthil Kumar said they were yet to ascertain the reason for the blaze.


In his complaint, the owner of the godown said waste cotton worth around Rs 1 crore was gutted. The godown had 1,500 tonne of waste cotton, he said.
