Maoists kill villager in Malkangiri

| | MALKANGIRI | in Bhubaneswar

In yet another incident of Maoist mayhem, the Red rebels killed a villager by slitting his throat at Orapadar village in the Chitrakonda cutoff region in the district on Tuesday night.

Sources said that around 20 armed Maoist cadres stormed into the village and dragged the villager out of his home and took him away with them. Later, he was found dead near the village outskirts with his throat slit. His identity is yet to be ascertained as police forces are yet to reach the spot.

Similarly, another villager was abducted by Maoists from Orapadar on Sunday night and his whereabouts are yet not known.

Sources said because of difficult terrain and lack of communication facilities in the cut-off area, Maoists have managed to infiltrate from Andhra Pradesh and other parts and spread a reign of terror.

The recent Maoist violence is seen as a move to terrorise the locals due to counter the joint operation of the Odisha police and the Greyhound of Andhra Pradesh, sources added.
