Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Oh Canada!” (February 21). It seemed bizarre that we invite a friendly country’s Prime Minister and then deny him customary VVIP ceremonies for his alleged soft corner for Sikh Khalistani-Canadian vote-bank. It is presumed that our High Commissioner in Ottawa must have done his home work in satisfying himself about Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s alleged sympathies with anti-Indian, pro-Khalistan Sikh diaspora, before recommending the important week-long visit.
One feels that it is not too late to make amends. Trudeau is known to be a sensitive, intelligent and forward-looking politician, who must be concerned by a vast majority of pro-Indian Sikhs and non-Sikh Indian Canadians as a major part of his vote-bank. He could be suitably and effectively influenced and educated about India’s progressive policies for a united nation with Sikhs as a crucial element.
Now that Jacob Zuma has finally exited, the African National Congress, which has fallen a long way from its glory days, has one last chance to rebuild its reputation before next year’s election.
