In Tamilnadu, all political parties have appealed to the Centre in union to form the Cauvery water management committee within six weeks time as specified by the Supreme Court.
This is the first time that the ruling AIADMK government had called for such a meeting under the leadership of Edappadi Palanisamy to discuss the issue.
More than fifty political parties partipated in the meeting held at the State Secretariat today.
Speaking at the meeting, Dy. Chief Minister O.Paneerselvam told that the State Government will take an upright stand on the issue to help the farmers in delta area.
Speaking at the meeting, main opposition party leader M.K.Stalin told that his party would support the State on the issue. State BJP leader Tamilisai Sounderrajan said the Centre would certainly consider the formation of the Management Committee.
AIR correspondent reports that the long standing Cauvery issue has brought in all the parties to the table for a detailed discussion today. Cutting across party lines,all the leaders put forth the creation of Cauvery water management committee within the specified period of six months.
The appeal also included the reconsideration of increasing the water demand up to 192 tmc by Karnataka as specified by the Cauvery water tribunal.
The parties plan to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to emphasise their demand and seek his intervention on the issue.
