FREETOWN — The Board of Selectmen on Tuesday signed and adopted a special speed zone, administered by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, for South Main Street.
The following speed limits have been newly established:
South Main Street – Eastbound
Beginning at the Fall River/Freetown town line and ending at State Highway – 0.32 miles at 30 mph.
Beginning again at the end of State Highway – 0.79 miles at 40 mph.
Ending at the beginning of State Highway – 0.65 miles at 35 mph.
South Main Street – Westbound
Beginning at the end of State Highway – 0.65 miles at 35 mph.
Ending at the beginning of State Highway – 0.79 miles at 40 mph.
Beginning again at the end of State Highway and ending at the Freetown/Fall River line – 0.32 miles at 30 mph.
Total Distance: 1.76 miles
Signs will be erected at the beginning of each zone.
In other business:
Selectmen finalized the list of articles to be voted on for Freetown’s special town meeting at 7 p.m. March 14 at Freetown Elementary School auditorium. The warrant will be posted around town and on Freetown’s official website on or by Feb. 28.
This special town meeting is different from the special town election on March 24 to vote on whether or not to prohibit recreational marijuana sales in Freetown, and the annual town election on April 2. The final dates to register to vote for each election are as follows: March 2 for special town meeting and special town election; March 13 for annual town election. You can register to vote at the Town Clerk’s office.
Freetown’s annual Easter Egg Hunt will be March 31 at the Freetown Historical Society. The Town’s Cultural Council decided to move it there after holding it previous years at the Council on Aging for more parking space and land with which to hold a more elaborate hunt. The selectmen approved a $150 charge for certificate of insurance to hold the event that day.
