Excise raid yields 7,805 litres of illegally stored spirit

Excise Department personnel on Tuesday seized 7,805 litres of alcoholic spirit, two vehicles and arrested one person for illegally storing the spirit during a raid in the city.

A press release here said that the personnel raided a residential premises at Bajal here following credible information received by Joint Commissioner Shylaja A. Kote.

During the raid, the personnel found 3,955 litres of spirit stored in 113 plastic cans of 35 litre capacity each inside the residence and another 110 cans of 35 litre capacity each containing 3,850 litres of spirit loaded on a truck.

The personnel also took accused Jose Sebastian into custody on the spot besides seizing two motorcycles used to transport the spirit. In all, the value of seized material was worth ₹ 11 lakh, the release said.

The department claimed that the accused had stored alcoholic spirit to transport it to Kerala.

Excise Superintendent Vinod, Deputy Superintendents S.S. Amarnath Bhandary and Shivaprasad and other officials participated in the raid, the release added.
