Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the State capital on Saturday, Union Minister of State for Finance Pon. Radhakrishnan called on Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami at the latter’s residence on Greenways Road here on Tuesday to discuss the preparations for the PM’s visit.
The meeting assumes significance as it was only a few days ago that Mr. Radhakrishnan claimed that Tamil Nadu was turning into a hotbed of extremism.
Addressing mediapersons after the meeting, Mr. Radhakrishnan said he held discussions with the CM on Mr. Modi’s visit and a proposal for a new port in the State.
Reiterates claim
To a query on his comment about extremism taking root in T.N., Mr. Radhakrishnan reiterated his claim, but added that he was only referring to extremism and not the law and order situation in the State. “The information I’ve been getting is that activism and training for extremist causes are happening in various places in the State. The Tamil Nadu government should take action,” he said.
When asked about Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam’s statement that Mr. Modi had a role in the merger of the AIADMK factions, Mr. Radhakrishnan said there was no necessity for the PM to be involved in the affairs of other political parties.
