‘Allocate funds for 3 acres to each Dalit family as promised’

Choosing the fourth anniversary of passing of Telangana bill in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, the Congress decided to target Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao asking him why he is not pressurising Prime Minister Narendra Modi to honour the promises made to Telangana in the AP Reorgnisation Act 2014.

When the Congress ensured passing the Telangana bill fighting against all odds, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) that came to power in Telangana has failed to fight for the rights promised in Parliament, alleged Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy.

At an informal interaction with the media here, Mr. Reddy said the TRS government has utterly failed in pressurising the Centre to honour the promises of setting up a steel plant, Railway Coach Factory, AIIMS, besides many others.

The TPCC chief alleged that Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao has no courage to confront the Prime Minister and instead is resorting to self-praise after making a hollow representation to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley during his recent visit to Delhi.

Mr. Reddy alleged that Telangana is top only in corruption and debts, apart from suppressing the fundamental rights of citizens. Voice of opposition, students and democratic groups is being ruthlessly crushed, he alleged.

Stating that the TRS government would be presenting its last budget next month, he demanded that sufficient funds be allocated for the three acres land promised for each Dalit family.

To a question, he made it clear that the Congress would put up serious candidates against the MIM party in all segments. With regard to conducting unanimous elections for DCC presidents, party leaders and AICC president Rahul Gandhi would be consulted, he said. He said the Praja Chaitanya Yatra (bus yatra) is aimed at re-establishing the party’s contact with women, youth, farmers and students. He said leaders and workers of different political parties would join the party during the yatra.

Issue of bills

Earlier, Mohammed Ali Shabbir alleged that the Chief Minister has let down the people of Telangana as he is unable to question the Central government though it has returned the two bills that sought enhancement in reservations for Muslims to 12% and Scheduled Tribes to 10%.

He demanded a clarification from the Chief Minister about the media reports on return of the bills and asked him his action plan to get the hiked reservations that were highly publicised but yielded nothing. “Will he stage a dharna at Jantar Mantar or will he move the Supreme Court as he had announced in the Assembly,” he asked.
