SURAT: The Crime branch sleuths on Wednesday arrested a member of the gang of eight involved in stealing cash and wrist watches worth Rs 1.56 crore from a branded watch showroom in
Athwalines, Surat.
Police are yet to nab the remaining other accused. Three of the gang members are said to have already escaped to Nepal with the stolen material.
The arrested person has been identified as 35-year-old Sainulla Zuman Dewan of Ghodasahan village in
East Champaran of Motihari district in Bihar. Dewan was nabbed by the crime branch team from his village on February 17. Dewan works as a butcher near Ghodasahan railway station. He was also arrested in Delhi’s Khanpur area for theft around five years ago, police informed.
Wrist watches of top brands worth Rs 1.50 crore and Rs 6 lakh in cash were stolen from
Anjan Watches and Anjan Helios showroom at Anjan Shalakha complex in
Lalbungalow of Athwalines during early hours on February 9.
The accused was nabbed following specific information about the gang’s movement in the city. They had come in an auto rickshaw from Surat railway station to the showroom and returned back to railway station in another auto rickshaw after committing the crime.
