Justin Huffman of Alto is the new tourism director for the village of Ruidoso for the 4 month test period.
On the recommendation of Alan Riches, the chairman of the Ruidoso Lodgers Tax Committee and a member of the panel that evaluated applicants, the councillors awarded a contract through June 30, 2018 when everyone will take another look and if an annual contract is awarded, it will be aligned with the village’s fiscal year.
Riches said that this is a small professional services agreement through June 30 to executed effective in March. The intent of the lodgers tax committee is to work with the village manager and incoming mayor to meet on a regular basis to evaluate the performance and progress of Team Tourism. If Justin is successful after four months, an annual agreement will be presented for council consideration and approval.
A request for proposals was issued in December, 2017 and two people responded, Huffman and Kelly Johnson of Ruidoso.
Huffman was named as the tourism director, but Johnson is not going anywhere. She will continue to work with Kerry Gladden of The Agency, who is village public spokesman and has been handling the responsibilities of tourism director since Gina Kelley left that position.
