Bentley Continental GTC Spied Testing with Little Camouflage

The next-generation Bentley Continental GTC is expected to launch sometime this year.

Judging by the latest spy photos, it appears the Continental GTC is getting ready to make its debut, given how little camouflage it’s wearing. Compared to previous sightings of the car by spy photographers, this prototype is very lightly disguised, as we can see the majority of its body lines and styling. Like the GT Coupe, the convertible model features a new front end inspired by the EXP Speed 6 Concept. But overall, the Continental GTC will still look like a modern Continental, carrying Bentley’s hallmark design from bumper to bumper.

It will however, lose noticeable weight by riding on the new MSB platform that was co-developed by Bentley and Porsche. The platform already underpins the Porsche Panamera. Bentley boss Wolfgang Dürheimer has already confirmed the new Continental range will be significantly lighter than its predecessor, with the body also taking advantage of lightweight mixed materials, just like the Bentayga SUV. The current body is steel, while the new model will feature mainly aluminum.

While it will lose weight, the Continental won’t drop below 4,000 pounds. But do expect it to weigh less than the GT’s current 5,236 lbs.

Under the hood, the Continental is expected to benefit from the new 600-horsepower W12 engine found in the Bentayga, as well as an updated 4.0-liter gasoline V8 engine. A plug-in hybrid variant is also in the works using a V6 engine, while a diesel variant is very unlikely.
