Pi Jam Foundation, maker of a low-cost pocket-sized computer for students to solve real-world problems, has won the Nasscom Social Innovation Forum 2018 award.
The foundation is among 10 organisations that emerged as winners of the social innovation awards at this year’s edition of Nasscom India Leadership Forum (NILF-2018) on Wednesday.
The foundation recognises innovative products and services in the areas of education, accessibility, healthcare, financial inclusion, environment and other social issues.
The awards were given away by Telangana IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao and Principal Secretary (IT and Industries) Jayesh Ranjan.
Besides Pi Jam, Saajha, Blank Solutions and Thinkerbell Labs would get grants worth ₹10 lakh each, while all the 10 winners will get mentorship worth over ₹20 lakh.
Saajha enables parental and community participation in schools to improve learning, while Blank Solutions has developed a portable device, Sparsh, that can convert digital text into Braille output.
Wearable patch
Empathy Design Labs has developed an Internet of Things-based wearable patch for pregnant women to help monitor pregnancy. Epocare has developed a wound healing analytics and prediction device.
The other winners include Danamojo, DonateKart, StrataEnviro and Schemopedia. The latter provides a one-stop-shop platform for searching, applying and accessing all government and non-government schemes and benefits. DonateKart allows organisations to create campaigns for their ongoing projects.
