Vizag District Kabaddi League got under way at Swarnabharathi indoor stadium here on Tuesday amid loud cheers of players.
Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University G Nageswara Rao along with Deputy Chairman of Visakhapatnam Port Trust L Harnadh inaguarated league.
Speaking on the occasion Prof Nageswara Rao said though hockey was our national game, most of Indians play kabaddi which gained much popularity in the recent times.
Inaugural match
President of The Olympic Association Visakhapatnam TSR Prasad, Olympian MV Manikyalu and formerMLA MallaVijaya Prasad said congratulated Vizag District Kabaddi Association and Visakhapatnam Port Trust for organising the league on the kabaddi mats in the indoor stadium on the lines of Pro Kabaddi League.
In the inaugural match of men's category Nookalamma Thalli (Gangavaram) registered a victory over Pedawaltair team (38-34) (half time score 13-19) and in the women's category Uma Warriors won against BVK College team (33-28) (Half time score 24-12).
The league will continue up to February 22.
Over 14 top teams in men’s category and four teams in women’s category are participating in the league.
