Iran: 5 security personnel dead in violent Sufi protest

At Least five soldiers of security forces lost their lives in violence during protest in Iran’s capital Tehran on Wednesday. In this connection, the police have detained three hundred people. The police said that for the protest against alleged torture of Sufi leaders by government, several Sufi faiths appeared on the road on Monday night and got deposited nearby police Chowki to demand the release of its members.

During this, there was a clash between protesters and policemen. According to the US-based Iranian Human Rights Center, several Darvesh were detained in Iran by the cops in the past 2 months. Prior, about ten people got wounded in the clash on January 14 while they were rallying for the release of Sufi followers.

The cop stated that the protesters attacked 3 policemen with the bus due to which they died and the protestors also killed a security worker by car and murdered another with a knife. Police spokesman Montzar-al-Mehdi said that more than three hundred people, including two drivers, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

About 30 police officers and some protesters were injured during this incident.  On the other hand, the Gonabadi Sufi faiths reported on the website that police personnel shot dead some protesters.
