The incident took place around 4 pm and on hearing the girl, S Nivedha’s cries, others rushed to the spot and sent her and the man, N Rajesh to different hospitals in the locality. Both are said to be out of danger, but continue to be under observation.  

Anna Nagar police, who have registered a case, said after preliminary inquiry that Rajesh and Nivedha were in a relationship from their school days. However, they lost touch after Rajesh graduated and moved to Coimbatore for work. They recently got in touch through a common friend and revived their relationship. 

However, Nivedha, studying for a Master’s degree in mathematics at a private college, found Rajesh dominating and continuously suspecting her. Hence, they mutually agreed to part ways and decided to meet at Tower park to return their respective gifts. But Rajesh, who had a knife hidden, attacked her and then slashed his hand.
