The district administration is making all arrangements for conducting the last rites of farmer leader MLA K S Puttannaiah, with all government honours.
Deputy Commissioner N Manjushri and SP G Radhika held a discussion, in this regard, with Puttannaiah's family members at Kyathanahalli on Tuesday. Later, the DC attended a Raitha Sangha meeting at Visvesvaraya Stadium in the village.
Manjushri said that the mortal remains of Puttannaiah will be brought from the JSS mortuary in Mysuru, at 6 am on Thursday (February 22), to Kyathanahalli, via Srirangapatna. Later, the body will be placed for public view at Visvesvaraya Stadium from 7.30 am to 10.30 am. The final rites will be conducted at Puttannaiah's farm (behind the rice mill), with government honours, she said.
She appealed to the people to pay their last respects during the given time and cooperate. The body cannot be kept for more than six hours, she explained.
Tahsildar Hanumantharayappa, farmer leader Chukki Nanjundaswamy, and Pachche Nanjundaswamy were present.
Condolence meeting
The 'shraddanjali' for Puttannaiah would be held on February 28, at Pandavapura town. The condolence is being held as per his ideologies and representatives of 180 farmers organisations will attend, said Puttannaiah's son Darshan. The rituals like 'thithi' will not be held instead, 50 farmers, who had achieved success in their field, would be felicitated on the occasion, he said.
