PUNE: Biswajit Nayak won the Yogesh Kakare Memorial Chess tournament on better tie-break score after five players were tied on 7 points each at the end of the 8-round Swiss League format under which the tournament was played hereon Sunday.
Organised by Navyug Mitra Mandal Trust and Hind Shakti Social Foundation, the day-long chess tournament was held at the Millennium Tower on Bhandarkar Road.
Biswajit won seven of the eight rounds and his only loss came in the fourth round against Akhilesh Nagare, who eventually finished seventh. Keval Nirgun settled for the runners-up title, while pratik Mulye, Nikhil Dixit and Himanshu Chhabra finished in third, fourth and fifth positions respevtively.
The top four finishers in the open category received Rs 3500, Rs 2000, Rs 1500 and Rs 1000 respectively in that order. The winners in other age groups were given prizes.
