According to police, after the day’s pooja, the temple priest locked the temple late on Sunday night and left. When he came back and opened the temple on Monday morning, he found the hundi broken open. The priest immediately informed the temple trustees. The trustees in turn lodged a complaint with the Ariyankuppam police in this regard. 

The police have registered a case and started investigation on the theft. It may be noted that the hundi of Muthumariyamman was not opened for the last five months.
