Of late, the Chinese lunar New Year has been gaining popularity worldwide, with more and more countries showing increasing recognition of the high-profile festival of the most populous country in the world.
In recent decades, huge rush of Chinese immigration has caused stronger global appeal and spread of the event. It is being noted that around 9 million Chinese people have relocated to abroad ever since the end of the 70s, many of them are relishing wealthier prospects.
Chinese expatriates are exploring every nook and corner of the world, with the dragon and lion dance-inspired celebrations being associated by increasing numbers of people who are not Chinese descent.
Of late, key capitals and prominent cities in different continents are all prepared to celebrate the most famous international festivity, highlighting a diversity of embodiments of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac. These include London, Madrid, New York, Manila, Melbourne and Hanoi.
New York City known as the 2017 lunar New Year holiday, popularly known as Spring Festival – as a school holiday in the city’s cultural agenda for the first time.
Keeping in mind China’s growing international political and economic impact, majority of foreign and world leaders have considered the occasion, as they extend greetings without fail and well-wishes to the Chinese people and leadership on the occasion, even though the wishes come late as those of U.S. President Donald Trump for last year’s holiday.
Nevertheless, with the rising economic power of the second largest economy of the world, comes a fresh new explanation for considering China’s important event; which is generating revenues from what has been termed as the Chinese “mass migration”.
