In a shocking incident, a woman fell off a central line train bound to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj terminus on Friday morning. Co-passengers of the ladies compartment from where the women fell, were quick to pull the emergency train. However, the motorman refused to stop.

The chain was pulled by a bangalore-based doctor, Arwa Hussain, who boarded the train in Kalyan. After the train failed to brake, Hussain thought the emergency chain wasn't working. Luckily, because of the slow speed of the train, the woman was able to get up and walk away with the assistance of two passers-by.

Central Railway officials, however, claimed that there was nothing wrong with the train, and the motorman simply did not stop as he saw the woman walking away safely and did not want to disrupt the train schedule. A report in the Times of India quotes Sunil Udasi, the chief public relations officer of the Central Railway as having stated, "A train guard looked back and saw the woman who had fallen off get up and walk away. So, instead of disrupting the train schedule, the motorman decided to stop at the next station, Thakurli."

Udasi is reported to have added,"The allegations are wrong as after the chain was pulled, the motorman and the guard noticed it. As the train was slow and the woman was safe, they decided not to stop the train.”

Passengers travelling with the woman, claimed that she was standing on the footboard when the incident took place and that had it not been two helpful passers-by, the woman would not have been safe. The TOI report also quotes a CR official as having added that the stantion master at Thakurli station was informed about the incident by the guard and the motorman of the train.
