In Tamil Nadu, Dashwanth, a 22-year-old techie was sentenced to death by a Mahila Court at Kanchipuram on being found guilty of sexually assaulting and murdering a six-year-old girl and also for the murder of his own mother.
Dashwanth, a mechanical engineer, sexually assaulted the six-year-old Hasini and brutally murdered her in February last year.
After being granted bail by the Madras High Court on a plea filed by his parents, he murdered his 45-year-old mother two months ago in Kundrathur and fled with her jewellery.
He was later arrested in Mumbai by the State police. He had tried to flee from the police custody while on transit but was arrested again and brought to Chennai.
Judge Velmurugan pronounced the verdict on Monday at a heavily guarded Court.
