Columbus Blue Jackets captain Nick Foligno is expected to be sidelined one to two weeks after suffering a lower-body injury in Sunday's game, the team announced Monday.

The veteran forward suffered the injury in the 5-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. He left late in the second period and did not return after playing one shift in the third.

Foligno, 30, has 13 goals and 13 assists in 59 games this season and leads the team with 46 penalty minutes.

Blue Jackets forward Cam Atkinson said after the game it appeared Penguins forward Conor Sheary's skate made contact with Foligno.

"It looked like the skate went right through his sock," Atkinson told The Athletic. "It didn't cut him, but I'm not sure what the result is with that. Hopefully not too bad, but that's the way it is right now."

In addition, the Blue Jackets placed defenseman Dean Kukan on injured reserve and recalled forward Zac Dalpe and defenseman Ryan Murray (conditioning assignment) from the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League.

Kukan, 24, will miss at least one week due to an upper-body injury suffered against the Penguins on Sunday. He has four assists and two penalty minutes in 10 games with Columbus this season.

Murray, 24, missed 34 games with an upper-body injury suffered on Nov. 27 at Montreal. The Blue Jackets' first-round selection (second overall) in the 2012 draft has collected 65 points (12 goals, 53 assists) and 86 penalty minutes in 244 career NHL games with the team.

Dalpe, 28, made his Blue Jackets debut on Oct. 6 vs. the New York Islanders and has 13 penalty minutes in 10 games this season.
