Regional language social networking app ShareChat has launched a vernacular video series through its platform ShareChat Talkies, which focuses on partnerships with film studios to onboard exclusive content to distribute to users.

The company is focusing on video as it is the fastest growing content category on the platform and a key form of monetisation in the long run, since more than 30% of the posts shared on the platform are in video format.

The company has already launched its first video series through a partnership with Bengaluru-based production house Hera Pheri films, in a five part series comprising 10 minute long videos.

“Through ShareChat Talkies, we want to partner with content creators and promote diverse regional content catering to a young audience. The first video series alone garnered 2.5 million views in the last week and 9,800 Whatsapp shares,” Sunil Kamath, chief business officer at ShareChat, told ET.

The company is looking to partner with film studios across 10 different languages, including Oriya, Bengali and Punjabi. In the next few months, ShareChat will launch four to five original series across varied genres, including romance, humour and thriller, across Hindi, Telugu and Tamil, apart from aggregating video content on its platform.
