• Ireland Faces Shifting Currents in Its Ties to EU

    Brexit and robust tax initiatives from the continent could bring new challenges to what has been a happy relationship

    Ireland may be the most pro-European country in the European Union. Some 87% of Irish citizens think EU membership is good for the country, according to a poll last year, and only 12% think Ireland should follow the U.K. out of the EU. The most recent Eurobarometer survey found that 80% of Irish citizens are confident about the outlook for the EU, the highest of any member state.

    Yet despite this optimism, Ireland’s relationship with the EU is bound to get more complicated.
