‘Restricting women’s entry into mosques against spirit of Quran’

A women’s seminar organised as part of the ISM Quran symposium here urged Muslim women to struggle for the right to offer prayers in all mosques in the State.

The seminar, organised by Ithihadul Shubbanil Mujahideen (ISM), claimed that the leaderships of the mahallu (parish) committees restricting entry of women into mosques were violating the spirit of the Quran. It also said that women needed to study and propagate Quranic instructions to get liberated from exploitation by clerics.

The symposium, which ended on Sunday, called for a contemporary interpretation of the Quran. It also urged Quran scholars to find answers in the holy text to contemporary issues, an ISM press note said.
