British Airways is helping customers celebrate Chinese New Year in its home at Heathrow Terminal 5.
Last year, British Airways launched a team of Mandarin-speaking customer service representatives at Terminal 5, to help customers on their journey through the airport.
From today and over the weekend, this team will be loaded with goodies to help customers celebrate Chinese New Year.
They include celebratory stickers wishing customers a Happy Chinese New Year featuring a photo of a dog – the animal associated with the incoming year, and chocolate gold coins, which are traditionally given to children to celebrate.
On top of this, the team will be equipped with symbolic red envelopes. These are traditionally filled with money by family members and given as gifts to other family members for Chinese New Year.
Noella Ferns, British Airways’ executive vice president for Greater China, said: “We look forward to celebrating Chinese New Year with our customers. Our 17 weekly flights to either Shanghai or Beijing are an integral part of our business, so we want to do all we can to celebrate this exciting and busy time of year. We’ve introduced a number of services for customers on our Chinese routes, including Mandarin-speaking customer service representatives at Terminal 5 as well as Mandarin-speaking cabin crew.”
In December, British Airways signed a codeshare agreement with China Southern Airlines. As part of the agreement, customers can book seats on China Southern Airlines flights to four destinations in China – Shenyang, Harbin, Changchun and Dalian.
On top of the Mandarin-speaking customer service representatives and cabin crew, British Airways offers a number of other services for Chinese customers. These include tailored menus for flights to China, as well as Mandarin and Cantonese-speaking customer relations teams to help customers before or after they travel.
