Household goods including electric and electronic items, furniture besides gold ornaments were gutted in a fire that broke out in a house at Driver Hill, Vasco on Monday morning.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
As per the available information from Vasco fire station, the fire broke at around 10 am. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Five rooms of the house belonging to Vishant Toraskar were damaged in the fire.
A tenant at the house disclosed that gold worth over Rs 10 lakh besides refrigerator, television set, furniture, electric and electronic items, and books were destroyed.
In all, three fire tenders, two from Goa State Fire Services and one from Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) battled to bring the fire under control.
Mormugao municipal council chairperson Deepak Naik, local councilor Rochana Borkar, social worker Girish Borkar and Umesh Salgaonkar besides others rushed to the site and provided assistance to the fire fighters and even to the family members of the house owner and the
tenants.
The total loss incurred by the occupants is yet to be ascertained, but as per the information provided by the house owner and tenants, the loss incurred by them could be over Rs 10
lakh.
